Sunday, April 28th (3-5 p.m.) Compound Yellow 244 Lake St. Oak Park, IL 60302 free and open to the public, all ages You are invited to come to “Radical Feminist Pedagogies” presented by artist, educator and critic Janina Ciezadlo. Janina discusses the concept of an oral final that she designed for a class entitled Women in Art Literature and Music, which bypasses reproducing a capitalistic exchange of knowledge for a new model of group formation. Then we look at a set of prompts for interrogating images from a Cultural Studies class entitled Imaginary and Practical Bodies, which Janina co-taught with an expert on women’s health. Janina Ciezadlo has taught in a variety of places and at many levels during the 35+ years that she has been a teacher and a professor -- from Navajo and Hopi reservations to the Graduate school of Art and Design at the University of Illinois, and many places in between. | above: Homage to Marcel Duchamp by Susan Hiller "Radical Feminist Pedagogies" is the inaugural program in the Radical Pedagogies series co-presented by Borderbend and Compound Yellow. This series happens on the fourth Sunday of the month at Compound Yellow. |

Borderbend is happy to announce that we're starting a new series called Radical Pedagogies, in partnership with Compound Yellow. This series, which happens on the fourth Sunday of the month, is intended to explore different ways of thinking about what "radical pedagogies" means. Here's what's being scheduled in the coming months:
The City of Chicago recently announced that it will not auction off Knowledge and Wonder (1995), a painting by Kerry James Marshall, to raise money to help defray costs of Legler Regional Library's scheduled renovations. Knowledge and Wonder had been installed at the Legler Branch till last month, when the City of Chicago removed it without public discussion or knowledge. The backlash against the mural's removal was widespread and swift, and the decision to reverse its removal was applauded -- including by Kerry James Marshall, who said, "It's the right decision."
Congratulations to the Chicago Learning Exchange for celebrating its first year anniversary! Truly an auspicious occasion. Check out CLX's calendar of events for upcoming programs; many of which are free and open to the public.
You are invited to come to “Rights of Spring: An Interactive Arts Happening.” “Rights of Spring” includes four movements — inspired by each of the four primal elements (water, fire, wind, earth) — and it involves performance, visual art making and music making. “Rights of Spring” is a collaboration w/ Borderbend and Compound Yellow.
If you’re a musician, bring an instrument. Musical instruments will be provided as well. Art making supplies will be provided, and you can you can bring your own stuff. 6 pm: Potluck. Bring something to eat or drink 7:00-8:30 pm: Rights of Spring |
