Borderbend's Ongoing & Upcoming Programming

Programming at Mozart Park
The Borderbend Arts Collective is an arts partner at Mozart Park (one of the Chicago Park District's 500+ parks). We have been offering the "Chicago Heroes & Arts Journeys" workshop series at Mozart Park since January 2014. Click here to register for the fall term!

These arts workshops are free and open to the public, and all ages welcomed. Participants are invited to bring writing utensils and paper, although supplies will be provided if needed. Sometimes we play music and explore other art forms, so if you have a musical instrument that you'd like to bring, or if you have art supplies (e.g. colored pencils, pastels, etc.) you can bring those.

So far our workshops have focused on the following individuals and groups -- The AACM, Art Ensemble of Chicago, Chicago Imagists, Dill Pickle Club, Hairy Who, Staple Singers, Jane Addams, Nelson Algren, Albert Ammons, Fred Anderson, Lil Hardin Armstrong, Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, Gwendolyn Brooks, Margaret Burroughs, Don Cornelius, Carlos Cortez, Jean Baptiste Point du Sable, Katherine Dunham, Buddy Guy, Etta James, Jens Jensen, Frankie Knuckles, László Moholy-Nagy, Marianne Moore, Lisel Mueller, Ed Roberson, Franklin Rosemont, Penelope Rosemont, Carl Sandburg, Muddy Waters, Koko Taylor, Studs Terkel, Sun Ra, Mies van der Rohe and Jimmy Yancey.

Tenth Annual
Chicago Calling
Arts Festival

September 26-October 10, 2015

at multiple venues in the Chicago area

The Borderbend Arts Collective proudly presents the Tenth Annual Chicago Calling Arts Festival. Chicago Calling is a multi-arts collaboration festival; during the Tenth Annual Chicago Calling Arts Festival people in Chicago work with people outside of Chicago — both here in the U.S. and abroad. These collaborations include a range of art forms, such as music, dance, film, literature, and intermedia — and they are prepared or improvised. Some Chicago Calling events involve live feeds between Chicago and other locations.

The 2015 Chicago Calling Arts Festival is part of the 20th Annual Chicago Artists Month, which highlights the work of hundreds of artists throughout Chicago with performances, exhibitions, open studios, tours and neighborhood art walks. The 20th annual Chicago Artists Month (CAM) celebrates the City as Studio: from October 1 – November 15, 2015. Join this community-contributed showcase of Chicago's artists and creatives and experience art in the parks, dance in the neighborhoods, installations in the alley, and concerts on the front porch. CAM is presented by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events in collaboration with the Chicago Park District and numerous community partners.
