Woodlawn Ave. Chicago, IL 60637 free and open to the public, all ages You’re invited to come to “A Time to Break Silence,” a community event that commemorates the 50th anniversary of “Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence,” a speech that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered at Riverside Church in New York City. “A Time To Break Silence” includes readings of passages from “Beyond Vietnam” by community members; a group discussion of Dr. King’s speech and its legacy and implications a half century later; and interactive arts-making activities inspired by Dr. King’s speech. This event is part of a national concerted effort to commemorate “Beyond Vietnam” (kingandbreakingsilence.com). Art making supplies will be available. “A Time to Break Silence” is being co-presented by Chicago Veterans for Peace and Borderbend Arts Collective, and is hosted by the First Unitarian Church of Chicago.
