A Time To Break Silence: Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the "Beyond Vietnam" Speech

You’re invited to come to “A Time to Break Silence,” a community event that commemorates the 50th anniversary of “Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence,” a speech that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered at Riverside Church in New York City. “A Time To Break Silence” includes readings of passages from “Beyond Vietnam” by community members; a group discussion of Dr. King’s speech and its legacy and implications a half century later; and interactive arts-making activities inspired by Dr. King’s speech. This event is part of a national concerted effort to commemorate “Beyond Vietnam” (kingandbreakingsilence.com). Art making supplies will be available.

“A Time to Break Silence” is being co-presented by Chicago Veterans for Peace and Borderbend Arts Collective, and is hosted by the First Unitarian Church of Chicago. We are seeking additional community partners to participate with us in this important commemoration of Dr. King’s vision and his courage in speaking out.
